Western Cadet Band was happened in the year 1989 as a concept of Lasantha Kapurubandara who was fortunate to be the maiden leader of newly borne band of the Mother of the Bandaranayaka College.

The born of the Western Cadet Band was happened in the year 1989 as a concept of Lasantha Kapurubandara who was fortunate to be the maiden leader of newly borne band of the Mother of the Bandaranayaka College. That's how the Western Band was launched the music expedition to illustrate their talents to the world.From year 1989 to 2001 band was continued as school band and they participated for various events like Inter House Sports Meet, Independence Day Ceremony. At the time several band leaders have dedicated to improve their talents,
reduce weaknesses and always tried to introduce innovative music patterns.After the wonderful 12 years period Western Band was got the opportunity to become as a cadet band. In 2002, Western Band selected as a Western Cadet Band by the National Cadet Corps.
As a result of that they were participated to their maiden band camp competition held in National Cadet Corps Training Center in Rantambe in 2002 and won the 10th place. The band was commanded by Chaturanga Wickramasinghe who was the first Sergeant of the Western Cadet Band.
In year 2003, it turned out to be the first Western Cadet Band in Sri Lanka which won the All Island championship award of Gen. T.I Weerathunga Shield in a least time period such as 1 year after registered in NCC.Year 2003 was the fantastic interlude to the band. The reason behind that was they accomplished a magnificent achievement as a band platoon by winning the Maj. Gen T.I Weeratunga challenge trophy in All Island Western Band competition. And also won the trophy for three years consecutively with 2004 and 2005.The "VIBRATION" musical program was introduced in 2004 and they were able to hold that in 2006 and 2008.

Gen T.I Weeratunga challenge trophy in All Island Western Band competition. And also won the trophy for three years consecutively with 2004 and 2005. The Sergeants of that period were Manjula Gunatilaka, Keerthi Sri Gunawardhana and Namal Madusanka respectively in 2003, 2004 and 2005.Band won the championship of "Swarnabimani 2007" (Cadet Band section) organized by Swarnavahini.In 2007 & 2013, they were able to win the all island 2nd place.In 2006 and 2009 they were able to win the all island 3rd place.Sgt. Ravishan L. won the Best Sergeant award. in 2007
